Hah.  Small world.  I set at the time I bought it a GPA high for an ASM 15 8.0, about 7 years ago. So I broke your then-chart-buster.  :acclaim:At the time, i thought it was nuts, and that it would take years to show equity in the book.  Now i regret not buying a 9.0 or higher of that book.  :frustrated:

Agreed, and I think the 4th and 5th print notion is flat out wrong. An extra printing is when a book sells well and they make more to fill the demand. These were reissues done later. That being said, I think the "4th print" stands on its own as a collectible since it is the first cover appearance of Shredder, something that hasn't been really acknowledged when talking of key Turtles comics .

His shadow appears on the cover of the first three printings. Would that count, or at least half-count, as a cover appearance? Would a reflection count? hm

Don't know about the shadow but if the cover below was the first time Hulk was on a cover, I'd say it counts

Really appreciate the kind words Alex.  I also agree about the #1, #3, and #4.  But I have to say #1 is nearly impossible to find in high grade with white pages.  I've been searching a while and I haven't seen one.

Earlier this month I went to town on Surfers in the ComicConnect auction, and I have now completed my 9.6 run.  All but #1 have white pages ... I will keep looking but I didn't want to wait any longer to upgrade the 9.4.

The Rocky Mountain #1 would be WP.

The two Boston #1's, one was a genuine 9.8 WP, and the other copy was resubbed from a 9.6.   It's a W/OW pagers 9.8.

Northland copy..??

Twin Cities...

Sacha News.. ??

Is there a Northland above OW?

SS #2 Northland is 9.6 OW/W

SS #3 Northland is 9.4 OW

I've got more Northlands, and do I regard it as a pretty good pedigree, but you might have a point.    Externally, particularly back covers, they present very well.

There is some weak books in the collection, and some staggering stellar books as well.

Overall, I found the older comics from the pedigree had better page preservation than the later Silver.

It's a scanner edge artifact, not a brown halo.

My comment remains, based on experience with the collection since Motor City brought it to market in the mid 1990s.

Good one. My experience has been brown pages coming out of the slabs. The ped is more of a warning than anything worth paying a premium.., for.

That's been my experience, too, with the post-1965 Marvels.  But the early stuff that I was fortunate to own was great.

This was up for sale at the start of 2021... going cheap at $60k.

The way I see it is that we:whee: tend to focus way too much on the extreme high record setting sale price point which might often be only that one outlier sale, while the majority of the sales actually takes place at substantially lower price points.  hm

Perfect case in point being this Silver Surfer 3 as my bet is that there's probably only this one or two sales in the $20K price range and probably a small handful in the $10K+ range, with probably the majority actually taking place in the sub-$10K price range over the past year or so.  (shrug)

So, we might have only the one or two unhappy speculative purchasers who feels they got burned on the book, while a whole ton more including those long term collectors who brought way back in the day, still jumping for joy at these reduced higher prices.   :whee:

Well, I purchased a SS#4 in 9.8W in 2014.

I checked the current price a few months ago.

After I recovered :tonofbricks:, I did feel :whee:

I'm not much of a pedigree expert and I'm generally neutral on them when making purchase decisions ... but you freaked me out a little bit with this post so I went and found all my Northland copies.  Here's everything I got.

Right - and the sad thing about CGC is they seem to assign PQ in the dark.  Either that or PQ is Matt Murdock's assignment.

You never know what is inside until you crack them out.  Trust me - I'm up to about 300 slabs cracked at this point.  I guess some good news is, sometimes they get it right...., I always enjoy cracking out those CROW books to find white or OW inside...,

Well, if you listen to these two jokers in this video here, it most certainly have as evident by drops of more than 50% during the past few months: :tonofbricks:

Definitely on the cold side as it finished up at #7 in their Top 10 coldest comic books, but still better than some of the ones that dropped by 70% to 80% from their highs earlier this year.  I guess it's really no surprise how many of these seem to have jumped up in the first place due to movie or TV related hype, but now seeing the other side of the hill.  (:

Weren't these the same two guys who had videos earlier this year on how super hot comic books were and now they seem to be taking the opposite tack on the mood of the marketplace.  Not sure, but did the guy in glasses hurt himself or give himself a hernia while doing this video, with all of his gestures or was he simply trying his best to take off and fly.  Then again, it's good to see that he's certainly enthusiastic and all in when it comes to the subject matter in hand.  (thumbsu
