I would classify that as a sketch, not a remark.

I associate remarks as doodles, defined as drawings devoid of character’s personality or emotion, distilled down to the subject’s basic identifying properties.

I hate remarks because I believe they exist solely by the idea of a creator’s signature to stand out from the rest.

I was not suggesting this was a remark.

It was a creator leaving their "mark" :roflmao:

as I quoted from your post.

Some sketches remarks I really enjoy. Some of my early ones (prior to CGC)

Others were done at conventions and a few that I had done with witnesses for CGC.

Oh lol

yeah if someone wants to leave me a drawing for their mark, bam! Im In love.

I know I am in the minority with remarks. I’ve had this discussion with others before and I’m finding out with all of these talks that rarely do people agree with me it seems lol  almost everyone will take a sketch, doodle, remake, over nothing, every day of the week

If Leonardo DaVinci doodled all over the Mona Lisa, yea I get how that would have been a problem. But imagine for a second that he made several thousand prints of the Mona Lisa, and on a select few, he drew one of a kind doodles. Is there a problem with that? Honestly I don't believe the argument that by having a book remarqued like that we are failing to preserve the books for future generations. Jerry Siegal and Joe Schuster are not around anymore to sign books. But how much money do you think a collector would pay for a copy of Action 1 with an authenticated superman sketch on it from Joe Schuster himself? There are thousands of copies of this turtles book that's not even 40 years old, and I see no problem with someone who originally worked on the book adding some history to it. He's not going to be here in 100 years to do this. These books aren't going to be signed forever.

I saw this on a facebook post. At what point should an artist/creator/writer refuse the request of customer? I feel Kevin Eastman should be ashamed of himself for doing this to this TMNT #1 1st Print. I knew he was a sellout and signs far too much stuff, but this really grinds my gears.

It's this guy's book.  If he wants to draw a turd on it or use it to line his kitty litter box, it's his book 🤷‍♂️

Some people like scribbles on their comics, some don't.

I think the heart of the issue is, the two camps.  By doing the scribble, you reduce the resale pool, if you decide to ever part with it, or you leave it to your kids and they decide to sell it.

But hey if it is your funny book, and you want scribbles, and it makes you happy- go for it.   Maybe you will keep it forever and it makes you smile-  win!    You may even find somebody willing to pay you gobs of money for it down the road.  Just not as many as you may have hoped.

At least he had something to do with the book and it is characters involved in the book.

Would I have this done? Nope, but it isn't my book.  It is a pretty cool sketch on a non-blank sketch cover though.

I got bought some Marty Nodell sketch Zero Hour comics directly from his table as well!  I was shocked that I was the only one at his table at the time.  Same with, I think, Joe Staton.  Everybody was lined up for John Cassiday or something.

Right now he wins because he got what he wanted, but he'll also be the one who loses if/when he decides to sell it.

This. Period. His contempt and laughable taste got him his momentary "Awwwww DOOOOOD tha's AWE-SIIIIME!!!" from his equally tasteless friends, but when the joke is over and he goes to his plan B (Which has always been to try to unload it), he'll have to find someone else with more money than taste and good sense to buy it.

I suspect a lot of people who do this always have that plan B in the back of their little pea brains. The examples I have seen sit for years at some outlandish price until some other dopey comes along and thinks "Awwwww DOOOOOD tha's AWE-SIIIIME!!!" Then they get stuck with the contemptuous POC.

As for Eastman, one has to wonder if he forgot where he came from. He's all set for life and a lunatic fringe think he's God so why not commit the ultimate act of contempt and go along with the gag? Why should he care?

I suppose the real outrage is the average collector/fan can't afford a 1st print high grade copy and consider it a grail. I want a Batman 1 in unrestored 7.0 or better. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. If some ding-a-ling brought Neal Adams a copy to draw one of his cameo "Bat-heads" on it, yeah I'd be burnt up. At the ding-a-ling for paying to wreck a copy of that book and at Neal Adams for doing it. It's a grail to some of us. Not some canvas for fools to show the world how avant-garde they think they are.
