Poorly handled by CGC. THey've never been the best at controlling the narrative around their brand, but this attempt is just awful. The right answer would have been: We messed up. No more changes POST-PRODUCTION.

Does anyone have Rob Liefeld's phone number?  There are around 5,000,000+ 9.8 X-Force #1s out there.  So that means there must be at least 1,000,000 potential10.0s.  I am sure he can whip up some quick acetate cover for it.

I really, really hope Marvel squashes this.

I guess this is technically no different than the burnt and cut up books over on the signature series thread getting SS 9.8 Yellow Labels instead of Qualified, after the books have been burnt and cut up (pieces literally removed).

I personally disagree with that decision and this one but also know my opinion doesn’t matter to CGC.

Seems CGC is letting ‘artists’ and their dumb ideas drive their policy decisions.  In this case I’m so glad I couldn’t care less about Clayton Crain art… now I know I never will.

CGC has spoken… only choice I see is to personally keep collecting what I love and to stay away from all this garbage

Nah, CGC has basically gave them the green light now.  I wouldn't be surprised if they are out there popping bottles of champagne as they shake hands with the influencers.

In a shocking development, CGC releases yet another terrible response to the fiasco. Not that I think anyone thought differently, but they don't care what we think. At all.

All of this has been a rude wakeup call for me.  I've been reading and collecting comics since 1984.  When CGC first opened its doors, I thought that it was kind of silly and unnecessary, but it could prove to be a good thing for buyers and sellers of older comics, mostly because of the restoration checks, certification of authenticity, and the fact that the grades were coming from a disinterested third party.  I was baffled for years that people would slab dollar box drek or brand new books and and then try to sell them for ridiculous prices, but people would actually buy them, so whatever - "to each his own" and all that.  That side of the business clearly took over, but hey, markets and hobbies evolve, right?

Regardless, I naively believed that CGC still saw themselves as a neutral, third-party certification and grading service and bought into the hype that they are the best in the business.

Those Pollyannaish beliefs have been shattered.  The last few months have shown me that they are simply an encaser of comics in expensive holders that have potentially arbitrary numbers printed on them.

I've bought and sold a handful of CGC-graded books over the years, but I currently do not own any.  After all these years, I was finally going to get off the fence and submit some of my books, but there's no way I'm doing that now.  I'm sure I'm not the only one for whom this was the last straw.

I still love comics and the CGC boards, though, so I plan to stick around and enjoy that part unless they kick me off since I'm never actually going to be a customer.   Maybe if I see the company get back to what it was (supposedly) intended to be, I'll rethink that and submit, but as things stand now, I feel that I would be stupid to do so.
