Needless to say when I looked at other issues of value I put the comic back in the bag from that point out.....

Frustrating, but the owner's books, so what are you gonna do?  Reminds me of an auction I went to years ago where the auctioneers and their assistants were tossing comics around carelessly.  What does this say, Amazing Spider-Man #3, toss it this way Brad.   A handful of us were cringing in silent horror....now I look back and laugh.

Background if you care (if not, just jump to the next paragraph): I've got the yard sale fever again. I really missed it. I found a Craigslist ad for a yard sale full of comics after not looking at Craigslist for months. I didn't see it until Friday night, and the yard sale was set for Friday. I messaged the seller and received no response. Turns out it was a community sale weekend, so I took a chance and went by this morning. Sure enough, the guy was there. We chatted for a bit as I searched. No comic sales on Friday - people were only interested in furniture. I was the only one interested in comics so far. He had ~7 long boxes at $2 each for 3/$5. Plus ~4 short boxes of individually priced books and a few random boxes of TPBs and misc. material. I learned he's collected a long time, they are short on space, wife wants him to sell, but we kept a few graded comics for himself. He hoped for someone to come offer him $2,500 for what he valued at $4,000. Short of that, he'd be happy to just keep it all. His long boxes were unorganized, had lots of damaged comics, and a lot of drek. His priced boxes were very aggressively priced. He recognized that he had mostly $1 boxes that he'd see at shows. I can't imagine why any reseller would ever offer him close to $2,500 and he didn't had the collection organized well enough for anyone to come and buy runs (plus so many comics were damaged).

At the end of it, I paid $21 for all these books, plus a bit more for the binders full of character bios. Everything is a first print.

No comics today. But when life gives you lemons, you make lemon aid. Seven full boxes. Weird Tales, Planet Stories and a good mix of other genres. While I was checking them out, a couple of young dollar book flipper kids passed them by without a second look…

Found this at the local Swap Meet this morning. While the average grade is GVG there's some that are better and some that are...well...ugh (it's what happens when you buy the group and they quote you 25 bucks). Love the Christmas at Shacktown, the Trick or Treat and the Scrooges # 9 and # 11 which are in decent shape. Four Color fun. Yay!

There were more movie/poster comics, but this is the only one that I knew had some following, as I have a slab of it.

Let me know if I should go back for the joker/mask, Aquaman/free willy, teen titans/lost boys, Harley Quinn/Elvis, Batman/matrix, superman/billandted, and several others?

The ad said free box of comics - sounded good to me.  I drove across town to pick them up - was not disappointed when I went through them at home

Highlights included the entire Byrne run on Sensational She-Hulk, lots and lots of 1990s Dark Horse Tarzan, the late 90s Mad reprints, and lots of other mini-runs of 1990s comics.

He said he had more, and would let me know (I offered to pay, but he was just glad they were going to a collector).

Nice grab.  What I would do is, send him a thank you card now for his time and the comics, and include a gift card to a restaurant or coffee shop.  It doesn't matter if they say they don't want any money, they'll appreciate the gesture.

What I would do is pass it forward to someone else random. Sounds like he did him a favor taking the worthless box of comics

But in the card you leave a note, saying you would appreciate any referrals, etc.  One of my best antique store scores was when I saw a pile of crud comics from a seller that I had no interest in, and by being courteous and professional he gave me a tip that the antique store in town had comics.  It turned into quite the plunder....everything for a buck, I found five copies of SSM 64 (among many others).....

I see people on Facebook bemoan never finding any good deals or not believing that a collector would ever dump their collection for a few hundred bucks.  To some people it really isn't about the money, they just don't want to throw the stuff away and they don't want to give it away either so if they get $550 then it feels like a win....without turning liquidation into a part time job.

Im back from a pawnshop near me i havent gone to for 4 month....the comics were lame,video games were ordinaire....still found a coin (i dont collect coins much but for a good discount plus great détails that i lilke lol)representing a tank an 2 soldiers from the italian campaign of 43-45 , an happy find of the day!

Flea market find yesterday. Good, vintage comic finds are pretty much a thing of the past. So I buy something else I like. Found this very large tin motorcycle. Never seen one of these. And the cool 1940’s Dumbo pinback was a welcome addition to my pinback collection.
