I love that X-Men 137 cover. :cloud9:

Oh yea - there is a X-Men 137 in there. I never got past the stack of NM 98 and the Hulk 181.

and thats why I never understood paying big money for a CGC graded NM98. Look 8 more coming in from the wild!

(PS nice timing on a find of them too, right before the movie!)

I hit a guy yesterday at a flea market who did a garage clean out. It was full of comics, magazines, pulps and stuff from local comic cons from the early '70's. He had no idea what they were. I missed all the comics since a guy was buying them when I came up and wouldn't show anybody. I did, however, get a large paper box of monster and comic related magazines in beautiful shape as well as some nice pulps. As I was paying, a crowd formed and the feeding frenzy ensued. I grabbed my box and took off.

I did blow it though. Another guy had a short box of misc SA-Moderns. Nothing special at $3. each except for the one I stupidly put back... Saga #1. Wasn't sure about it and I don't like moderns, so I left it. I even though about going back but it was hot and I was satisfied with my box of mags. I sure hope someone was smarter than me. Oh, well, live and learn...

I am a noob speculator/flipper (say it loud and proud!) and wonder what others here think of this deal. If I lived a bit closer I would go check these out and try to swing a deal maybe, but 4 hours away to upstate NY is too much for me. Star Wars complete run 1-107 and ASM 300 are the big ones. He sent me pictures yesterday of Omega Men 3, Star Wars 1, and ASM 300 so they are still available I guess.

C'mon gotta hear the true story on this one. You can leave out the amount paid, but how does one get such a "phone call'?

Gary has been in the comic community for a long time.... I used to buy my comics from him 30 years ago (at his Buffalo Grove store).

Besides being the former owner of the Moondog's chain with a ton of old customers in the Chicago area, I work with a few stores in the Chicago area that don't deal in old books. I'm their "buyer of vintage comics". So when people see their window sign that they "Buy Old Comics" they stop in and get a flyer on how to sell me their comics. The owner of the books was considering putting an ad on CL when someone told them about the shop with the sign in the window. That's when he called me.

When I went to see the books, there was a ton of moderns that I didn't want, but there was also these nice books. There may be one 9.8 NM 98. Probably 2 9.6s and the rest 9.4s. The Hulk 181 is a 5.0/6.0. The other books are really nice.

The books were the seller's son's who passed away 20 years ago, and it turns out that he was also an old customer of mine. The son had speculated on a few books and it was nice that he thought NM 98 could be a winner. I was surprised that they weren't all 9.6/9.8...

There are many, many baby boomers who are downsizing and selling their collections. I've created a nice little niche as the "expert who can help you sell your comics."

Business is great and the best part is that it's a ton of fun!
