ComicConnect Smashes Hulk No.1 Record!

ComicConnect has smashed the record books once again with a sale of Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 9.2 for $320,000.00. “This sale completely obliterates all other Hulk 1 9.2 sales. Comic investors are passionate about rare and early Marvel superhero issues. None is more difficult to find than the Hulk. Hulk #1 is the rarest of all the Marvel superhero first appearances, with only 1 9.4 and 4 9.2 copies. It is important to note that with the Incredible Hulk #1 9.4 locked up in a collection for a long time to come, 9.2 is the best copy on the market, hence the astounding price” stated ComicConnect COO, Vincent Zurzolo.

Not much is known about the buyer of this book other than the fact that he is an avid collector and investor and plans to keep this comic in his collection for a very long time to come. “We believe that the Hulk’s popularity is on the rise in comics and on the silver screen. We believe more record prices are soon to come for the Green Goliath!” mentions Robert Reynolds, Director of Consignments for ComicConnect.

In early 1962 the Incredible Hulk was created and entered the Mighty Marvel pantheon of characters. Inspired by Jekyll & Hyde and the Jewish myth of the Golem, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kept their streak of success running with the big and brutal Hulk, devised as a misunderstood monster in the tradition of Frankenstein, and deliberately meant to appeal to the outsider mentality of so many of comics' young, male readers. This instantly classic issue preys on Cold War fears of nuclear annihilation and the average American boy's body discomfort and confusion to create one of the most haunting and affecting of hero origins, and a book guaranteed to appeal to the growing army of boomer comic collectors. Initially colored grey in his premier appearance, the lead character was quickly reworked into a big green beast when the primitive four-color printing process mangled the grey color scheme throughout the book, changing the goliath's hue practically from page to page. This instantly recognizable cover image still resonates with fans to this day, green or grey.

That`s just insane.

I agree. With 4 copies at that grade I'm trying to envision how an offer for say $250K would be turned down. $320k seems pretty darn aggressive but I guess when someone is after a certain book and they have the cash things happen.
