Nice restored AF15 on EBay up for auction.   I am not too knowledgeable on resto. Can regloss be undone?  I’m assuming no

Here are some results from Goldin last night.

7.5 = $312k (not sure if there are any good recent comps)

5.5 = $103k vs $115k (Feb) $120k (jan) sales

4.5 = $69.6k vs two Jan sales of $66k/$69k

2.5 = $38.4K vs three most recent of $55k (the eBay sale that many talked about), $42.3k, and $45.6k

 Outside of that $55k Ebay sale, starting to feel like maybe the market is pausing just a bit to catch its breath on this book.  It has been a rapid sprint over the past 8-9 months.   Nice assortment of ComicConnect this month of 8.0, 5.5, and 3.0 to watch......

On a parallel note - a Hulk #1 in 8.0 went for $210k up from a Dec sale of $188k (the 8.5 had the big sale of $270k last year).  There is a 8.5 and a 7.5 on this month's ComicConnect auction as well.

i would hesitate to draw too many conclusions from a second or third tier auction house. i'm sure goldin has a decent amount of patrons, but it certainly isnt HA CL or CC.  i'm speaking as someone who's given way too much money to CL and HA over the last five years, but not ever even checked out a goldin auction, much less bid in one. i can't be the only one.

i'm sure the market is normalizing overall since last years explosive numbers. still, 70k for a 4.5 looks very healthy to me.

Wow the cover re-glossing on that copy looks terrible. It makes it look completely unnatural and counterfeit!

Fair - and I believe Goldin is much better known in the card community.   Though they did have some solid results.   They have a much more curated auction as well - I didn't count but probably less than 50 books overall and no scrubs.   A couple of notables

A Fantastic Four #5  in 6.5 went for $31.2k which is a new record high vs GPA results and up from $24.9k last GPA sale.   A TOS #39 in 4.0 got close to its 2021 peak with a $16.2k sale vs last GPA in January of $14.5K.    JIM #83 in 8.5 sold for $85.2k (last sale was in April for $75k).    TOS #39 in 8.5 sold for $102k vs $99k GPA in Nov.    ASM #129 9.8 and 9.6, GSX #1 9.6, XM #1 3.0, FF #49 8.5, DD #1 7.5 all went right around most recent GPA results (some a bit higher some a bit lower)

So wasn't a weak auction.   And the AF15 results weren't weak either........just didn't feel as "frothy" as the past several months where every auction/sale regardless of platform saw a material increase over the prior sales.

Don’t sell any AF15s!  You lucked out. Todays record sale price is just a steal for the buyer. Glassman left 50K on the table selling at a record price.

Now you've done it. He's probably on his way back to the Boards.

Yeah, @Glassman10 is probably on his way back to the boards to let you know that his son's house which was paid in part with the AF 15 funds, has now gone up in value by $200K in the interim.  :baiting:  lol

Well, let;s not forget about the CGC 9.8 graded copies of both TMNT 1 and the Hulk 181 which sold for what I believe are new record amounts.  :whatthe:

Looks like the TMNT 1 sold for $264K which was a bit higher than the $245K, $250K, and $230.56K which CC was able to get for their last 3 copies in September, October, and December respectively.  The Hulk 181 for $98,400 was a big jump from the $84K that Heritage was able to get for their copy back in September and pretty much double what the book was selling for back about a year ago.  (thumbsu

And to give DC some love - I believe new records for Batman #1 in 5.0 at $510k and Superman #1 in 3.0 for $720k.

I thought my fellow AF15 owners would get a kick out of this clip on Pawn Stars (apologies if this is a repost).  If the grade given is correct, my 5.5 just went to a 7.5!! starts at 5:46:

After watching this video in its entirety, all I can say is these Pawn Stars guys really need to cough up some money to at least get a copy of the Overstreet Guide to get even a basic valuation on some of these books here, as they seem to know absolutely zippo when it comes to comic book valuations.  :facepalm:

I don't understand why a person would decide that being on TV is worth losing $1000s of dollars when they sell a book on Pawn Stars.

Possible - though that 4.5 was a white pager with some pretty bold colors.    And for sure just a personal preference - but if someone gave me a choice of the Goldin 2.5 plus $17k or the Ebay 2.5 straight up (the one that sold for $55k)  - I would go Goldin and the cash      I guess with those lower grades - gotta pick which faults are most acceptable - detached covers, missing pieces, trashed spine, stains, etc.   They are all going to have something ugly about them.     I am a sucker for rich, bold colors....it can pull my eyes away from the other deficits.

I'd pay much more for an AF15 with OW pages and no clipping vs one with WPs and moderate amount of chipping.   But I may be in the minority.

Eye appeal >PQ. and its not really close IMHO

I'm more or less in the same boat, though I would pass on cream or worse on such an expensive book.

Glassman 10 has no regrets at all.

I still have all the JIM and Thor to read and marvel over the profoundly stupid story lines they came up with. The cardboard cutouts of Thor really being the best.

I love Thor.

Stan did get very sloppy with his sigs last years but this sig looks strange

Have to agree with that. I have a couple of sigs from the 2017 Emerald City Comic Con and no where near as bad as that one looks.

I believe since all of it is staged there is some compensation, I know of a toy collector who did an episode and he stated the filming was done at a different location.

What do you mean WTF my guess was 225k to 250k last one sold for 180k months and months ago.

I'm still astounded. Just the fact in this grade it's reaching these levels. It feels like the other day you could pick one up for $70K on eBay any given week. But that was slightly pre-pandemic.
