Will CGC make an official statement?

will my sales thread be poofed if I say books have been pressed by Joey?

I had some books blessed by Joey, and now I'm terrified to even try and sell them. :fear:

Actually, looks like price increases have saved their bacon!

Same sales numbers… 50% increase in dollars.

Unit Sales for Diamond's Top

300 Comic Books from each month (est.):

Dollar Sales for Diamond's Top 300 Comic Books from each month (est.):

1998 ….84.45 million copies ….$210.65 million

2013 ….84.51 million copies ….$308.71 million !!!!!

thank God for the hardcore fanboys that are willing to fork out $2.99 to $3.99 for a 5 minutes worth of reading.

Since Joey has been friends with the CGC guys for years and brought them tons of business, maybe he thought they would part ways in a classy manner? Not just callously pull the plug, in a manner that can be perceived as cold and petty? Messaging.

And I'd be upset too, but then I'm not friends with the moderators or the higher ups. I just know the admin and grading staff at CGC.

If I'm going to submit a book to CBCS, do I have an obligation to let my friends at CGC know that?

And as I have often been reminded, friendship and business are two very different things that have little to do with each other.

A shame but very true.

I remember a few years ago I had Joey, Matt and Mike DeChellis (Heroes Restoration) all in our forum dinner in Seattle. There was no territorialism there and everyone seemed to have share their experiences freely. I miss the good old days.

Well we don't really know how much that $308 million is actual profit.

sure, but I don't think their costs rose 50%, and , anyway, we don't know how much profit was in ANY of the yearly numbers (like the 210M for 1998), so on the face of it, looks like the price increases yielded them 50% more money.

I don't see how Joey is a competitor strictly because people who use his services may also use the services of a competitor. If they expected his services to be exclusive to their company maybe they should have put him on their payroll, or bought controlling share of his company.

CGC expected Joey to turn away comics that were going to another grader. I wonder if CGC would turn away comics that were pressed by one of Joey's competitors?

Same numbers if you look at only the top three hundred, and only through Diamond.

How many comics did Comixology sell in 1998? How many trades did Amazon sell?

What did the bookstore graphic novel section look like in 1998?

They did...?

Where did they post this?

Right now, by referring to him as a competitor, because he presses comics that go someplace other than CGC. If CGC and Joey had some sort of exclusive deal I'd imagine he'd be the only presser they accepted submissions from. If they're both freelancing then why remove all mention of him on the forum?

Lets talk about this 3 yrs from now.

People said that 3 years ago.

:baiting:

Don't get me wrong there will always be a niche for print media but its glory days are long gone.

That was true 30 years ago, for comics anyway...

I quoted a post where someone on this board referred to him as one. He's not a representative of CGC, but his explanation of the poofed threads is that CGC does not allow discussion of competitors. If that is a valid explanation, CGC is considering him a competitor. If you have a better explanation I'm all ears.

If I can make a suggestion. Lets wait to see what CGC has to say to me and let all the hubbub die down. I was just told that the people I need to speak with are OOO until next week.

OOO?? Is that another new grading company?? :ohnoez:

It's a porn sound effect :gossip:

lol

Queue up the Joey O-face memes.

I don't think CGC is expecting Joey to turn away books going to CBCS.

I think CGC is just not going to allow a competitor to have a thread cheerleading him on their own site.

Very big difference.

Well gosh, this doesn't feel like a slippery slope.

If Greggy would have said that the boards would be in an uproar right about now.

Which makes the nonsense of removing posts discussing or alluding to it even more ridiculous.

But the threads did promote Joey's pressing service at the expense of CCS's.

It's no different than a lawyer pumping himself on another law firm's site.

From what I can gather from the exchange between Ze and Joey, Joey knew it was coming. I think he's more disappointed in the way it was carried out.

As he should be. One thing that has been forgotten is Joey is still a customer of CGC.

But will he be after the way this whole thing has been handled (or not handled at all)?

hm

Yep. Treating someone as an enemy is a good way to make an enemy.
