A.K.A. Jessica Jones on Netflix (11/20/15)

I tried to watch the first 4 episodes last night and they were absolutely treadful.

It's a terrible cross between one of the NCIS's and a Law and order special victims unit.

Hero for hire #1 should plummet. I was so excited for Luke Cage and they ruined it!

None of these characters are likeable.

Please cancel this garbage.

Should plummet???

Just because YOU didn't like the show does NOT mean the book should plummet. It doesn't work that way.

What matters is how many people liked the show, how many people liked (and like) Luke Cage, etc. And from so much evidence in this thread, a lot of people do.

His portrayal of Luke cage so far is on par with Nicholas Cage on ghost rider

According to YOU. (Of course you are entitled to your own opinions and are welcome to share them here, but to say that the book will plummet because of YOUR opinion of the portrayal and/or acting, etc, is to ignore completely that the reviews of so many have been positive, including that of the portrayal of Luke Cage).

Man up and just say John listen you don't know what you are talking about etc....

JohnnyBoy you start smoking crack again??? The show is absolutely brilliant, I can't stop watching and finding time to slip another episode in. Didn't have a clue about any of the source material going in, but after watching three episodes before Sunday, at the show I did I bought every copy of Alias #1 in the room. I really think this one has got legs. And PurpleMan? An incredible villain....even bought a DD #4 on Sunday because of it. The MCU has become the "it" thing for me right now, so much so that if someone came up to me and asked me if I'd like to watch Force Awakens tomorrow or Civil War, no contest Civil War hands down.

Jim

Funny, you said the same thing after the Ant Man movie came out.

I'm not hating on Alias 1 (I have 2 raw copies). The TV show brought a much deserved interest/buzz to the title but I'm not sure if the feeling of euphoria can be sustained to encourage more suckers speculators collectors to buy copies at inflated prices.

Saw all 13 episodes over 3 days. Overall, I still like JJ more than Netflix's DD because I could not make sense of the Alias #1, 5, 6 comics that I tried to read. Advantage of DD is that fans are so happy to see Miller's well known (and well read) story arc on the tv screen and hopefully season 2 of DD will introduce more promising heroines and villians (Bullseye).

I watched it all. I'm not as excited about it after watching DD start to finish. I think it's okay, but not great. In my mind it's not as good as Flash or Gotham. And it's waaaaay behind DD. The best part of JJ were the supporting characters, I liked Luke Cage, Patsy Walker, Kilgrave and even Will, a lot more than I liked Jessica. I dunno if I'm just not a fan of her as an actress or they wrote her to be so completely unsympathetic. If they make a second season, I'll probably watch. If they don't, I'm okay with it.

Thanks for the spoiler! :(

Also just finished the series. Pretty good, but like others have said, not as good as DD. Kinda bummed they killed my favorite character (Kilgrave). He was a fun villain. ;)

That's quite possible, and maybe not a coincidence that Guardians, Ant-Man and JJ are something I don't have a clue about, so maybe it is all about the freshness.

But what do I know...I was offering to pay for people's admission price to FF as I thought it didn't deserve the reviews it did...and I know that source material like the back of my hand.

Was pleasantly surprised with series!

On the positive side, good modern noir, down to the gumshoe rarely catching a break, REALLY nice cast of fleshed out characters, and feminism on display without being militant or Mary Sueish.

On the negative side, the middle drags. I feel like this was six hours of story telling told over the course of thirteen hours. Would have liked to have seen more "case of the week" to better fill the time. Also, and this is a quibble for ABC executives, but there is a huge gap between ABC Marvel programming, Marvel movie programming, and Netflix Marvel programming. I wonder how many 10-13 year olds watched JJ.

I LOVED that the series basically used the Batman/Joker dynamic from DKR. Very savvy, IMHO.

Just finished the series. I can see why the critics like it - it has a strong female lead and isn't as formulaic as the other series in the genres (no villain/monster of the week, for example).

I think it was all right. Balancing everything out, I'd give it a B+. Given that there was really only one villain and one storyline, I felt like this could easily have been wrapped up in 6 episodes, 8 episodes tops, though. A lot of the middle episodes just seemed to blend together, and Kilgrave's powers just seemed to get boring and repetitious with each passing episode. Really wish they had wrapped up his story in the first half of the season and moved on to something else for the back half. Or, threw in some villain-of-the-week material in-between to better space it out.

Aside from his exploits in the bedroom, this version of Luke Cage's super power isn't just unbreakable skin, it's his ability to bore the audience to death. zzz

I thought the Daredevil series (an A in my book) was much better - better characters, beautifully choreographed fight scenes, less annoying supporting cast, and much stronger source material to work with. 2c

While I very much enjoyed JJ all around, I can't help but agree with your points :foryou:

I actually liked the fight scenes in JJ, they seemed more real than the choreographed stuff. Fighting like Into The Badlands for example looks too polished, nothing like that happens in real life. UFC fights are not that pretty, often short and brutal and sometimes boring. Plus the fact I don't think JJ or Cage have any fighting skills, they're just Butterbean tough. Daredevil is a ninja, different style

I knew Gene would agree with me that the Luge Cage character sucked.

It was like he is soft-core pornstar stuck in a terrible TV soap opera.

It was embarrassing to the character.

Nothing about the actor who played Luke Cage felt natural.

IMO this show is worst than Superman III and Batman and Robin.

After seeing how horrible Luke Cage was portrayed in my opinion on Jessica Jones I know have no faith any future productions evolving Mike Randal Colter as Luke Cage.

I would have rather seen Dave Chappelle at Luke Cage: rantrant
