Where in the world was the Quality Control at CGC???

Okay, gang.  My 20 Modern slabs arrived today...just shy of seven months since CGC received them.  For the good news...no damage to the shipping box, no broken pieces in the slabs, all labels appear to be correct (nothing missing), and overall the books/slabs look clean.  Most of them have a few small spots of Newton Rings (not a biggie to me) and some of the slabs have cosmetic and small scratches and/or scuffs, which could be on the inside.  They are very small...I'm not worried about them.

Now the bad news.  Right now, I'm trying to clarify a potential problem with each slab.  I'm working with my pressing guy as we speak...see what he thinks.  First, nineteen comics came back 9.8, one a 9.6 (I agree with it).  Very pleased, except one of the 9.8's was a gift (1st two pics).  I sent it in knowing it had an ink-breaking spine tick (not pressed).  Never had this happen before.  There are a couple small ticks that don't break color.  I don't recall those being there, but it wasn't pressed.

Another 9.8 arrived with a finger bend on the front, near the bottom (pressed)(pics 3 to 5).  I'm pretty sure this happened at CGC.  This will have to be remedied.

The big potential problem I see on each slab is what appears to be a crack/fracture either on one side of the slab or the other...or both (pics 6 to 8).  Some are very light, some not so much.  They aren't in the same spot on every comic, but they are limited to the bottom half of the slab.  These aren't sonic welds, I believe, and they don't look right.  Whatever they are, I've never seen this before.  I even looked at slabs I received last year and didn't really notice anything.  Of course, the last batch of slabs I got back from CGC was over a year ago.  Who knows.  Now, I just have to figure out what to do with all these slabs with the odd looking 'crack'.  I have no more comics at CGC...this is my last batch.  I won't have another stressful shipment.

I received an order of 6 moderns back today. Four of the six cases have a small pressure fracture on the bottom inner edge of the case. They look to be in the same place as @Galen130fractures. My fractures are no more than 3/16”, but shouldn’t be there. I think there was too much downward pressure applied when sealing the case.

But what I’m really unhappy about is that three of the books look like they were manhandled during encapsulation. They now have significant spine creases that must have occurred after grading. One is a 9.0 Avengers Annual 10 that wouldn’t be graded that if the damage was before grading. I have before photos that shows they didn’t look anything like they do now.

It took four months to get these completed and returned and now they don’t even look like the grade on the label.

I just put them back in the box for now. What a joke!

I will take pics and post them tomorrow.

Serious question. Does anyone think CGC cares in the slightest about a single issue raised in this thread?

Yes, but not BECAUSE of this thread

I think they care that subs are coming back. Not sure how they couldn't. It is costing them money

I probably should have been more clear. Other than the monetary losses that returns cause.

What, like empathy?

The most successful CEOs carry psychopathic traits. So definitely not

:frustrated:

I put mine back in the box too.  I'm waiting for an answer, through my presser, to see if CGC will fix them.

Really disappointed with how CGC handled my book, excessive in my opinion. It obviously happened while it was being put in the slab. Should I reach out to customer service or will they not care?

Before the slab became the star, I thought the point of encapsulation was to preserve the grade.

Too many examples on this thread demonstrate that slabbing is detrimental to the grade and, more importantly, to the comicbook.

I would think that all of the horror stories we are hearing now, they better care. It's like a revolving door of books going in, back out, and back in again, with a variety of screw ups. Quality control is a disaster there right now, and dead silence from them sure ain't helping things.

Considering the closest thing we have gotten to an official response has been "Every book that leaves our office does go through quality control"  that isn't exactly encouraging.

Personally, I never would have slabbed that book.  It doesn't loo like it was ever a suitable candidate for encapsulation.

What constitutes a suitable candidate for encapsulation?

Nothing. People can slab whatever they like.

He's trolling, anyone questioning why you would grade an X-Men 1 on this forum knows better. Nice book @FrankTheTank92
