Not exactly responsive to the question, but I "lurked" for probably six months before joining/starting to post.  This was primarily because - as noted ad nauseum - I'd been out of the hobby for 45 years and it's completely different than when I left.  Steep learning curve which I'm still on.  Now I probably post too much - idle hands are the Devil's workshop 

Two things I'd echo: I also delete many posts before hitting "submit reply" - not just dumb, childish or mean ones, but stuff that upon reflection isn't really adding anything to the conversation.

For those who hesitate due to reading mean treatment of some posters and/or piling on, or the pointless bickering, I completely agree.  People will have their Sacred Cows but that kind of thing is discouraging.

I have only met a few in person but there are several I talk to in pms like I have known them for years. It just develops over time naturally.

I joined CGC in 2017. That was still 2 years before I came back to the hobby for a third time. I don't know why I joined but I was photo-cataloging a large part of my collection at the time. I guess I wanted to know more about slabbing and it's impact on the hobby since my last go around a decade earlier.

I lurked on the boards since joining but more and more starting in the summer of 2019. I didn't post content until this past summer.

The biggest reason for that is I don't do social media and I don't post on the internet. At least I didn't until recently. (Social media will forever be a no-go.)

I thought I could contribute to the discussion in the EC Addict thread. I then contributed with a couple of pics. Since the gate was open I introduced myself and headed to the PGM forum to play. PGM is where I lurked the most, trying to educate myself and practice my grading skills. I lurked until I gained the confidence to put forth an opinion. Now I grade every book that's posted.

To my surprise, posting is fun when I can participate with humor, knowledge or a book or two I want to show off. The CGC Board is great because it's a vast resource on our hobby and it's entertainment. It's great fun.

Lurkers - contribute and help entertain us. You'll find community.

Intent or not, jump in new members. Tell us what comics you enjoy or something interesting about yourself.

I have to really work at remembering names, so I have always tried to do that. Bird just said it made him uncomfortable, that never occured to me, I was trying to make other people feel comfortable. 

I'm going to try and mix that up a bit;)
