I'm getting a little tired of the comics are only read by boys trope. My mother got me reading Batman because she read Batman as a kid. Hell, I probably wouldn't read comics if not for her.

Most of my female friends read comics of all character types.

In my home town of Houston, Bedrock City had a female manager in the 90s.

Can we please move on from this.

well at least from the neck up you're in the club

i was on the outs for 25 years collecting this freakish material.  My family disowned me, I was shunned and laughed at by fellow collectors, sand kicked in muh face!

comic geeks, go figure!

It actually only comes up about once a year. It's just a topic that irritates you. That's why it seems like it's all the time. People generally get irritated by conversations where they agree with the losing side, but they can't form a legitimate winning argument well enough to take it on. That may not be the case here, but there is still room for improvement in this agrea, and therefore, need for continued conversation. After seeing you announce that you're done with a conversation the moment woman chimes in, I'm curious to know if you tell your female significant others that they're "overreacting" during disputes. I kinda feel like you would.

If I could make a suggestion: the time it takes to prepare me a sandwich is time that could be well used in thinking about exactly why you don't like it when this conversation comes up. Thanks babe! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂💜

In another thread I posted this observation concerning books released back in June 1962:

The comics market was much more diversified back in those days. Superheroes were in the minority by far. Looking at the MikesAmazingWorld Newsstand listings for that month, I counted 13 different titles published by Archie Comics that month. War, Westerns, Cartoons, Romance, TV shows and Movies; the genres were all over the place. I counted 21 non-Archie Romance titles. In spite of comic books being regarded as a nerdy guy's medium, at least back in 1962, the proportion of titles directed at a female audience crossing many age groups tells a different story. Comics were obviously being read by a wide and varied audience and I knew more than a few females that were Spider-Man fans even in the 1990's. More recently, a girl down the street who was friends with my daughter was an Avengers fan and was shocked to find I was big into comic books when she was over one day playing games with my daughter. I showed her my collection and as a gesture to acknowledge and celebrate her interest, I gave her one of my graded Avengers from my original personal collection (I believe it was issue #109).

This thread was started by someone accusing men of using their female  significant others scantily clad to sell comics. The implication of that sentiment, that these couldn't be women admiring or selling comics. My rant had nothing to do with you joining the conversation.

What I said was women read comics, like you. My mother got me into them. My grandmother on my dad's side bonded with me over them. Maybe that why it upsets me? Two of the most influential women in my life read comics. Maybe saying women don't read comics is a way of invalidating two people who are very special to me.

And since you are curious, I'm the person who tell all their friends and significant others that their feelings are valid. As someone who is on medication for an accute anxiety disorder, I don't believe it is healthy to negate someone's feelings. Being on the other side of it sucks.

Now that I have answered your implications of mesagany, I will apologize if my post came across as about you, it was not.

I'd love to discuss golden age with you. It's a particular interest of mine.

Yes, there are a ton of golden age books that were collected by females. I love to get books with women's names on the covers! I am excitedly waiting to be introduced to a female who collected gold and early silver extensively and is now in her 90s. Someone's already come in and poached her collection, but I just want to hear her stories! It wasn't that the comics we're in some way unconsumable by women, it was that the atmosphere of collectors specifically omitted them and claimed it was because they didn't want to be there. Granted, it was super weird to all genders to be a girl and want to be into comics for a really long time! Ive never had any idea why. Do some guys think that women are born with a comic blocking hormone? Does all comic information bypass our brains and get sucked into our ovaries? Ive never  understood it. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 In the early shows it was awkward to have to go and talk to porn stars because it was assumed that was the entertainment that comic book collectors would like (I was not an avid porn follower myself at the time.) But, we did what we had to do. Now the world has gotten a lot better! But there are still major gaps. Mainly in people's assumptions. I don't really care anymore, other than it hurts a little when people second-guess me where I know they would not do so if I were male. But, that is currently part of life is a female (what discussions attempt to change.) On this one in particular I was saying I was tired of seeing naked people when looking for comics, but somehow it got flopped into a woman's rights discussion... so here I am.

Aww thank you! I can be pretty defensive regarding this topic. It's been a marathon of an existence, being wierd! 🤣😂🤣 In a shocking short twist of thread, I  admit I have overreacted! 😂🤣😂💜💜

Can't wait to talk about golden age! My weak areas are westerns and romance. Everything else, I'm down!💜

I'm here to admit that I was dead-wrong. W-R-O-N-G. I have stayed away from this thread because I felt that there was anything that I could do or stay that would make things better.

I have been accused of starting this thread because I wanted attention. I know the adage, "There is no such thing as bad publicity," but I hope all of you would realize that I wouldn't want to bring all this wrath and scorn upon myself just to gain attention.

I have been accused of being a liar. Fair enough. I feel that I was mistaken, but you say T-O-M-A-T-O, I say T-O-M-A-T-O.

All I can do now is to say that I am sorry, and I will strive to do better. I'm sure there are people who would prefer to see me flogged or to see me put in the stocks in the town square, but I honestly don't think that is done anymore.

I have admitted that I was W-R-O-N-G and I have apologized. I have done the best that I know how to atone for my ignorant statement. I hope that this is sufficient for most of you.

Don't sweat it dude. Seriously. You're not the first person the put their foot in their mouth. Trust me, I speak from experience. It's really not a big deal.

You're welcome.

Western and Romance are weak for me as well. I'm mostly a DC fan but have read some Fawcett and Timely.

First you apologize, then you start right back into the sexy talk.

I'll bet there are guys on this forum who have dated such women and even married one. Probably a good thing, too, since it will keep the collection from expanding into the entire house.

I had an internal debate for awhile about making the above joke and my internal  won.

You are listing to the wrong people. This is not a good thing. First, when both partners collect, there is a 50% less chance you will miss an auction or second guess a good book deal. Second, it is easier to organize when the genres have their own rooms. Third, if your house is eccentric, people can't tell if it's dirty or stylish!! 😂🤣😂🤣 (just kidding! I'm actually very tidy, I just decorate with what I collect! 💜💜

As for the smell of a Edgar Church copy, I've never had the experience. The only one that I was able to hold was slabbed.
