Weird that one grader gave it two grades (2.5-3.0) instead of being decisive and putting a single grade.

They did - "msf" graded it once, and "vof" graded it twice!

Cheaper and more cost effective to have two.

There also used to be two pieces of micro-chamber paper encased with the books.

Last several dozed I've cracked (GA-SA books) there was only a single sheet, and on two books (valued at over 10k a piece) there was no micro-chamber paper at all.

CGC cutting corners all the while raising costs since the Blackstone purchase.

I like it! I wish all slabs had multiple grader estimates on them.

Not sure how I feel about having min. wage temporary employees' initials on my slabs.

Probably neat for them though...before they move on to more fitting jobs at Hardee's, or the local car wash.

I am pretty sure the new employees are grading the bulk moderns that cycle through. The ones that last get bumped up to older books that require more extensive checks, and I image the ones who are long enough for that to happen get paid more, with the lifers who make the most handling the walkthrough high value books. At least that is how I would do it.

Also, it could be in the exact same condition and just get a different grade.

This is one thing we know about CGC.... just send a book in until it gets the grade you want.

I've seen this theory many times over the years and never fully understood it. I guess I could understand it more if specific examples were given of checks that are required of older books that are not required of newer books.

I just returned eight books, on an ME ticket, from a 15 book Modern order I received on 6/7.  I’ve never seen this issue before.  This issue was actually apparent on 13 of the 15 books in the order. I kept the seven that I could live with.

This was a total failure that should not have gotten past any QC review done by human hands with human eyes.

Each of the eight returned slabs were improperly welded shut. At the top of each slab there is a groove where the two halves of each slab fits together, sealing in the book once welded. The same groove you would insert a screwdriver to start cracking a slab open.

The top side of the top half of the slab (Where the label is) was bowed up or out, depending on how you look at it, leaving between a 2mm to 4mm gap between each half of the slab!

Here’s a few examples.

 

To make it worse, when the books were improperly sealed, it caused the books to be torqued into the shape of a shallow bowl. This created new spine damage and old spine trouble spots, that were pressed flat before they were encapsulated, to get damaged even worse than before!

This shouldn’t be happening if people are paying attention to their job. If you pick up the slabs from the top, in the middle, where most people will grab a slab to remove it from the bag. It feels spongy with lots of resistance, like squeezing a tennis ball between your two fingers.  Nothing like a properly sealed slab should feel.

One last issue with these slabs in their condition is that the opening at the top is wide enough to allow air and dust to get into the inner well.

I hope CGC will do the right thing  and properly correct these slabs.

Had this book graded earlier this February and just noticed the book was severely damagaed in slab. Called CGC today who advised they can't help as this is well past the "2 week timeframe for mechanical errors" and to speak with the dealer I submitted the book  to assist me. This doesn't look like a mechanical error to me. Help @CGC Mike
