You want a real challenge go after Marvel 30 and 35 cent variants. 
This is like a warm up to them.

The rarest of the DCU books at least seem to be scarcer than the 30c books generally are; a full run of the 35s remains, um, daunting however.

A bit rich for my tastes!  SW #1 and IF #14 especially!  Forget it!  LOL
I do have two 35-cent variants, though, in really beat up shape.  One is a Howard the Duck, the other is Captain Marvel (or is it Iron Man?).  I got them for super cheap due to condition, but I had to have them for the sheer novelty.

yeah they are more expensive now then they used to be. That being said you can still find DCUs for nothing.

Weird but fun: two copies of Batman #515 with a Direct Sales sticker over the DCU upc. I picked both up on eBay recently from two different sellers, one in California and one in New Mexico. When I asked, each seller said they purchased as part of a collection, one recently and one when they were younger. At a glance, the sticker size and shape appears consistent with the ones used for stickered DCUs.

A sticker is a sticker, obviously, so YMMV. But I am counting it as a fun little addition to the madness that must have been Troika storyline era printing and a cool companion for my Shadow of the Bat #35 misprint.

Anyone ever find one of these in the wild?

It's been a while since I've been able to find any DCUs in the wild, but finally ended the dry spell at a recent con thanks to the bargain boxes! The AOS has some corner creasing, but the rest are nice and filled a few holes in my collection.

Thank you! I don’t know if I’d say this book has exploded in the CGC census but in September, 2019 there were only 4 9.8s, today there are 14.

Celebrating a milestone; with this comic I have hit 500 unique DCU titles/issues. Found it by chance in a group lot that averaged out at $1 a book. There were a few other DCUs but nothing else super exciting.

That's quite a collection!  Congrats!  What's the official max unique count known to collecting-kind?  My quick stab at it shows it may be 556 unique issues that are known/confirmed per the list appearing in this thread.

Counting only loose issues (no issues in sealed packs), and only those that are literally "DC Universe" (not Batman logos or Zero Hour etc) I'm nearly at 400 unique issues.  And I've been at this longer than most of you whippersnappers!  

But I've very rarely bought issues for any premium.  Although I did cave this year and spend about $20 on a Batman Adventures #28 when I had a weak moment.
