Omnibus, Absolute, Deluxe, and HC Thread 19 19

As for the next volumes, that is apparently a raging debate going around at the moment. It's increasingly seeming like Marvel will just continue to collect everything chronologically in the UXM omni line, making those "Event" omnis (Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Inferno, etc) redundant. It'll take several years to get to that point, so I guess we'll see how it shakes out, but if that's the case, I'm definitely out after we're caught up to the Fall of the Mutants omni, as that will be all I care to own.

This was the around the time I stopped reading Uncanny X-Men.  I was always more of a small pull list guy and found it impossible to keep up with all the crossovers.  I got fed-up with the cash grab and dropped the title.

I had a subscription to UXM that I stuck with until the launch of the "new" X-Men title. I bought the first three or four of those, and then was effectively done with X-Men altogether. I think my last issue of UXM was 283 or 284, sometime around whenever Bishop showed up. I was about 14 or 15 and drifting away from comics in favor of music and girls, and like you, I was tiring of the crossovers. The stories had become so convoluted and soap operish, the magic was gone for me. The Age of Apocalypse brought me back in, and that's reflected in my omni collection, jumping from X-men by Lee and Claremont volume 2, followed by Age of Apocalypse.

New printing of the Brightest  Day Omni arrived today. Missed this one back in the day, been waiting a long time!

Some of my recent HC/TPB purchases from Dragon Con. $5 each! Lot of good reading material in there.

 

 

I bought a bunch of books from guests, but I think these are the highlights. Elfquest Vol 1 signed by Wendy and Richard Pini, and Dune Volumes 1 and 2 signed and sketched by the 2 artists.

Great finds! I haven’t been to Dragon Con for about 10 years, but used to find great stuff there. And for meeting pros it was the best, because comics are just one small part of what that show is all about, so a lot of the time you can just walk right up to legends and superstars without any sort of wait. It was great. I miss it, but it finally got too big for me.

New printing of Morrison’s Animal Man Omni hit. I sold my first print when they announced this one, as it was OOP and selling well. The gamble paid off, as I sold that one for over $100, then bought this one for $48. The system works!

I also grabbed these Doomsday Clock volumes on clearance from IST, came out to about $20 for the set. I really didn’t have much interest in DC’s continued crass exploitation of the Watchmen property, but this set caught my eye with the slipcase. For the price, it was an attractive design. I guess we’ll see if the story is any good or not.

Doomsday Clock is good. Just don't expect Alan Moore-levels of writing and you should be able to enjoy it. It raises some... Interesting questions.

It's not as-good a sequel as the HBO TV series, but I like it enough to get the Absolute Edition when it drops.

Cool! I’m sure it’ll be solid. I’ve usually enjoyed Johns’ DC stuff, and Gary Frank is great, so I will raise my expectations!

After a lot of back-and-forth, I decided to pull the trigger on this one.  My reluctance had to do with the suspicion this favorable pricing was a strategy to blow out a bunch of misprint copies the seller might be stuck with.  But apparently IST never updated their SKU number and online description when the latest error-free reprint came out, so there is at least a chance I'll be getting a copy without the misprint.

Will post pics when it arrives.

My purchases from the clearance have started to roll in, and I gotta tell you folks, this Absolute WW is a steal at $37. If you’re interested in this run in the slightest, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. It’s a beauty. DC’s future being what it is (along with apparent poor sales of this volume) make me fear that we won’t see more from this run, but really, you should pick it up all the same. Beautiful book for the price.

When I saw the spine was the old large font style with the $100 cover price my heart sank.  One of the Reddit threads indicated $100 was a "tell" for the misprint.  But mine looks to be fine:

Also, I've been intending to share this, but keep forgetting. The OHMU Omni came back into stock at IST a few weeks ago. This had been OOP for at least a few months, and was selling for $175-$200 on eBay. So if you missed it the first time, you can't beat $67!

This was helpful. I had a sealed 1st Print and it's misprinted inside but spine looks good.

Congrats! It's a volume I want in the permanent library, but I also knew I wouldn't be reading it again before the new version came out, so I'm glad I was also able to flip mine, fund this new copy, and pocket a little extra!

Aw man, I just checked and mine is the messed up version. I wish you guys didn't know so much. I was happier when I had no idea about the misprint.
