Honestly, I dont think either way is the right way.

I sometimes wonder if storing them upright could put more stress on the spine and staples but thats not why I lay them flat.

I just feel better having them lay flat.

I think they look better flat and I can fit a lot of slabs in one of these drawers.

I dont stack higher than 6 slabs though.

The ASM drawer in the last pic has 36 slabs inside.

Ive also been told its not safe to store them in wooden cabinets...something about the acids in the wood.

I dont worry too much about that because the books already have multiple layers of protection (inner well, CGC case, mylar for graded / bag and board for raws)

I do make sure to open them every few days to change the air inside.

I've read here somewhere that storing slabs, on edge, spine-side down, puts the least amount of slow-stress on both the book and the slab.

It's been two years since I had any books on display. I was finally given permission to bring the bookshelf in from the garage. It's in the living room now which is different. I'll see them more than I would in the bedroom but I'm a little worried about things getting bumped into. Direct sun won't be an issue and I'll probably put the comics away when I'm not at home.

And my cats love my books. Gotta keep them off the shelves.

I don't get much say in the home's decoration and it's not a hill I care to die on.

Got a year before the oldest kid moves out then I'll have a study again.

So you are not allowed to have any of your own stuff displayed anywhere in your own house?

I can understand if it's excessive, but a little bit I think is fair game.

Yeah, pretty much.   

 

The bookshelf was upstairs until a desk and couch replaced it. I had books displayed on a chest of drawers but that was precarious because of the aforementioned cats.

Now it's in the living room. And the old lady will have to find a new spot for the Christmas tree.

I do have my own Harry Potter closet under the stairs. 

And I'm real good at leaving my books on the dining room table for days on end.

What are the best ways to display your raw books?

I have a shelf for my slabbed books as they have the support of the case while they're leaning. Even with a strong backer board I'm afraid the raw books would start to bend if they were on the same shelf.

When I display raws, I put them in a toploader. It looks like a toploader for trading cards, but for comics. They come in different sizes, too.

Most raw books I'll display will be in a Mylite² or + with a half back.

I use a plastic easel from a dollar store. The books will lay at an small angle. I've never had issues with bends. (I will rotate what's on display every 2-3 days.)

More of a statue/omnibus room at this point, but finally got around to putting up the display cases.

 

Comics all in a file cabinet on the other wall.

I’m now officially a member of the comic book room club!  Just recently moved into a new place and have never had all my comics organized in one room in decades.  I have some figures, posters, hardbacks, and TPB too, but the comics take up too much space.

I store them sideways but with the spine down.
