Even the newb's must wisen up quickly (shrug)

There's no way the reputation for these guys 200-300% mark-up isn't common knowledge in the wider CAF community?

Fortunately, they don't try to resell everything they've got at 200-300% mark-up, or the clients would become rare...

I don't know what I think about that Batgirl. I don't want to run it down, but if Dustin Nyguyen sold that for $800...he was very fortunate.

Someone outed Mike in the chat for buying a Pat Broderick Conan page for less than $800 (best offer taken on Ebay) and marking it up to $1700. It was awkwardly funny because the guy said he just blurted it out and didn't mean to cause an issue.

The SSOC #54 pin-up by Broderick was $550 best offer. Good buy price.

It takes a while to figure out the landscape. Also, when you watch the show and a dealer presents something which is marked up 100-200%, the other dealer, Bill or someone watching will often comment on "what a deal it is" and sometimes even state it is underpriced. For complete newbies watching, you would think "2 dealers and Bill (or a prominent poster) agree, that price has to be right" and buy -- without realizing Bill, Anthony and Mike are all in financial relationships with each other to their own benefit... or the person who posted is seeking to boost their own OA values... or the person who posted is secretly a huge friend of one of the dealers and gets a far better price on art than you ever will. Figuring out ALL of that takes a long time.

It really shouldn’t take that long. It’s one show, shared production costs, and friendly competitors. And there is no fighting between them that’s worth anything. Since it’s called Dueling Dealers, what I would watch is where a 4th person offers the piece to all three dealers, and the one who bids the highest wins. That should happen sometime after Hell freezes over.

Now at Panel Page for $22,500

https://www.panelpageart.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=2918

Following up on this since it just sold at Heritage.  Nice pricing job by the original seller.  Not so much by the later dealer or consignor.

This sold 3 months ago for $26,250…it’s now for sale for 40k. How does something like this appreciate in value so quickly ?

You wave your Albert Moy magic valuation wand over it, say "Bippity boppity boo" and blast it out via email

Not quite, this sold roughly a year ago on Clink, I only know cuz I was the underbidder. It was offered privately beforehand for roughly this same current ask, but I don’t think this example counts as a “quick flip”. If you go to their site it’s actually much more reasonable at $32k. I love the bottom panel, but the rest of the page is “eh”, which is the issue…

You are correct. Apparently I still think it's 2022...

Yeah sorry to chime in and be a “fact checker” but a “few weeks” to over a year ago doesn’t quite seem like a quick flip… though I do understand in the OA world anything less than 5 years is considered somewhat of a “short term” hold…

When is a sale not a sale???

This Travis Charest cover was on Albert Moy's site earlier this year for $9K, then it went to Burkey's site where it sat for a while at $12K.  It was then auctioned at ComicConnect (while still being listed at Burkey's site until CC asked Burkey to remove it from his site) and sold for $11K last month.  Now its back on Burkey's site, but for $11K.

Yes, I was curious about this too. More than the usual "dealer shuffle." Was this another buyback?
