Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit??? 43 43

My tinfoil hat theory is that the run-up was fueled by the belief that Venom (which had Venom 2 forthcoming) would be the 6th villain in SM: No Way Home and subsequently enter the MCU proper.
People were bidding up Venom books in anticipation of then being able to flip for profit if that came true.

You thrown out the truly silly, one-off highs and lows over the past 14 months and ASM 238 in 9.8 has been a pretty stable investment as indicated by 2021 avg, 12 month avg, 90 day and last sale.  

ASM #129 has been a bit more volatile across most grades including the super high grades.   Two 9.8 sales on GPA in 2022 - one for $38.4k in Jan and one for $57k in March (Intstagralz seems to have sold one for $47k last week).  9.4 has six sales ranging from $6.9k to $9.2k.

I think prices might be easing up a little. Yesterday, I went to the Big Apple Comic Con. There was a big overlap of vendors from the 2021 NYCC.  Yesterday, The vendors were more willing to discount their stick price than they were in October. At both shows, I was focusing on early Silver Age books (e.g. Showcase and pre-FF marvels) which aren't very plentiful. I realized my anecdotal views are only based on two data points, but I felt a difference in the dealer rooms between the two shows.

Will also be testing this out at WonderCon next weekend.   Last Con I went to in Dec was talking to a dealer about an Avengers 4 in 6.5 which he offered to discount to $4800.   I won one on Heritage a few weeks later for $3500 which was more inline with market rates.

Not sure about the hyper keys, but the stuff I've been trading mostly, mostly mid-high grade raw McFarlanes (Hulk 330s, ASM 310-328, Marvel Tales, etc) has been doing quite well.  Better than ever really.

Went to another con, same as last week.  Reasonable prices.  One dealer was offering 25% off wall books and other deals.  Lots of deals around the room and another con where I didn't bring enough money

I have another in a few weeks, to see if this trend continues.

i hope wondercon is a good time, i will miss going this year. 

in my experience, for key and semi key books, dealers tend to price based on the highest all-time sales, even if those took place a year ago now. it would be nice if they lowered prices to fit the current market but i can't recall seeing that happen.

for non keys, i would hope prices have come down and that more dealers are willing to give better discounts. i suppose it all comes down to how they are selling. if they're doing well at the con (or on their sites), then obviously they don't need to lower prices. if not, that can perhaps be motivational.

Perhaps, but I think the $4.5K sale is an outlier.  The true FMV of this book is $5.3-$5.5K for blue, white pages.

Interesting to hear about your success with mid-grades McSpidey and McHulk books.  Regarding McTales books, his run of covers on this title is more difficult to obtain than folks suspect and perhaps prices will reflect this soon.

May have a lot to do with their timing of acquisition/cost of goods on the book as well.....which I can fully appreciate.

Whenever the next Spidey film is announced, this will begin to go up again.  My guess is that, by November we will hear about the next Spidey film.

I attended the Charlotte Comic-Con (Spring Show) back on March 27th and I also felt that prices eased up a bit. A few dealers were handing out 25% discounts on wall books and they were a bit more flexible with their pricing as well.

I was mainly focusing on key issues and felt everything was more affordable when compared to previous sales data.

does this mean that the wall books still had the ambitious price stickers on them, but if you talked to the dealer you were able to get a 25 per cent discount, or was it an actual lower posted price than previously?

If they were raw key issues, then there was flexibility when it came to pricing.

But when it came to the wall books that were graded, some still had their ambitious price stickers from when they were going for those prices, but if inquired about said book, they were willing to drop it down to the current FMV.
